Grading is the process of leveling or smoothing a particular soil base in preparation for construction projects, landscaping, or road building. It is often applied to parcels of land with uneven or sloped terrains. Grading is important for farming to avoid possible irrigation problems. Depending on the soil surface, grading can be either a very simple or a complicated task. It is therefore important to survey the area first, prior to grading. Before pursuing land clearing projects and grading, its environmental impact should be taken into consideration. Contractors, as required by the law in any state, should integrate proper planning to reduce loss of topsoil and land erosion resulting from clearing and grading.
